Shanhui Fan is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Professor of Applied Physics (by Courtesy).  He also serves as a Senior Fellow of the Precourt Institute for Energy and Director of the Edward Ginzton Laboratory at Stanford.  He is a Fellow of the IEEE and SPIE as well as the American Physical Society and the Optical Society of America.
The Fan Group engages in theoretical, computational and experimental research in photonics, focused on microphotonic and nanophotonic structures like photonic crystals, and solid state devices more generally. The group’s research is motivated by applications in a range of areas including information processing, imaging and renewable energy and thus involves fundamental and applied studies in plasmonics, metamaterials, silicon photonics, photovoltaics, quantum optics and computational electromagnetics.
